Don Rickles Roasts Ronald Reagan

With all the publicity about the leftwing outrage over the Obama New Yorker cover, I thought I would take you back to a time when politicians actually enjoyed being comedically roasted. Specifically the roast of Ronald Reagan by Don Rickles as you can see in this VIDEO of a Dean Martin Roast of the Gipper back around 1970. And no one enjoyed the roast more than Reagan. Take a good look at Reagan's reactions to Rickles humorous jabs. The ability to laugh at oneself is a true sign of character. Take note, Barack.

I miss Ronald Reagan so much after watching that. He would make mincemeat of the Obamessiah. There is no comparison. They'll never be another Ronald Reagan, I'm afraid.

Compare this reaction to the one by George W. Bush when he was roasted by Steven Colbert at the White House Press dinner. I'm surprised that Colbert isn't in Gitmo.

As usual, there is a subtle misinformation being foisted here. Obama himself did not take issue with the New Yorker cover, even though it was not exactly the same forum as a "roast". The subject of a roast is expected to be light-heartedly insulted, and everyone in that seat has always taken it graciously. Reagan is no exception there. Go ahead, hold a roast of Obama and observe his dignity.

My, my, how in the world did you determine that the big "O" had dignity. Was it when he bowed to the middle eastern King??? Hummmm!

Well, I don't know. Was it more dignified for W. to stroll hand-in-hand with the Saudi king, or for Reagan to covertly sell missiles to the Iranians?

Yes, thank the Lord there will probably be another RR. He was affable, a very nice guy and led a charmed life. He was an actor - never presidential material. He's the one who closed down mental hospitals and turned patients out into the streets where they turned into the homeless, panhandlers, criminals and victims of today, and the one who declared ketchup a vegetable for the school lunch program, among other far more dangerous policies. His grateful buddies gave him and Nancy a luxury home when he retired. His record is not stellar on many counts - but hey, he was such a nice guy.
